08:00 CET - Good morning and welcome to day two of the quarter-finals at Roland Garros! After plenty of surprise outcomes, drama and world-class tennis on display in the first half of the quarter-finals, today promises to be more of the same.
Getting this Wednesday underway is a clash between Anna Kalinskaya, who is appearing in just her second Grand Slam and Maja Chwalinska, who has been the surprise package of the tournament. Chwalinska went through qualifying just to make the first round before securing impressive wins en route to the quarter-final against the likes of Qinwen Zheng and Maria Sakkari.
Her opponent, Kalinskaya, came through her toughest match so far in the last-16 as the Russian battled to a three-set win against Anastasia Potapova. Neither player, though, has had a top 10 opponent in a draw that has opened up perfectly for both women to do something surely unthinkable when the tournament began. That sets up this quarter-final perfectly, as the reward of victory is an unlikely semi-final showdown.
The winner of that match will likely face world number one and massive Roland Garros favourite Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-final, unless Diana Shnaider can continue her great journey at this year's tournament by producing the shock of 2026 Roland Garros. An epic round of 16 win against Madison Keys would have taken a lot of energy out of Shnaider, but it might also have given her the belief that this might be her time to shine.
