Tampa Bay Rays
This marks the third time in franchise history that the Rays have reached the World Series. They won their third pennant after sweeping the New York Yankees in three games during the Division Series, then the Cleveland Guardians in six games (4-2) during the American League Championship Series.
After losing to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008 and then the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020, the Rays are looking for a "third time's a charm" outcome.
Tampa, who finished the season with an AL-best 98-64 record, head into the World Series with a +22 run differential, scoring at least three runs in every single game, seven in two of the last three, since scoring just one run in Game 1 against the Yankees.
In the lineup, designated hitter Yandy Diaz is the hot bat for the Rays heading into the World Series. He's the only person on the team with more than 10 hits this Postseason (12 in total), while also leading the team with two home runs and seven runs.
Dominican superstar Junior Caminero and Jonathan Aranda both have one home run each with a combined nine RBI and a .265 batting average.
Meanwhile, they also boast Chandler Simpson, the speedster who led the entire league in infield hits (42), sixth in total hits (175), fourth in batting average (.306), and second in steals (46).
But it's the pitchers who are in the spotlight for Tampa Bay.
Ace and AL Cy Young candidate Drew Rasmussen has given up just three runs through 21 innings in three starts this Postseason, one being an eight-inning shutout against the Yankees. No other pitcher on any team has thrown more than 17 innings, including the Brewers.
His 23 strikeouts rank second among all pitchers this Postseason, all while giving up two walks.
Freddy Peralta, whom the Rays acquired at the trade deadline this season in a deal from the New York Mets, won the ALCS MVP after giving up just one run in two starts (11.1 innings) against the Guardians. His six-inning shutout against the Guardians in Game 2 marked the most innings Peralta has ever thrown in a Postseason start.
He will be going up against his former team, where he spent the first eight years of his career and became a two-time All-Star.
Meanwhile, in the bullpen, AL saves leader Bryan Baker has now thrown a franchise-record 35 consecutive saves that include five this Postseason. He hasn't given up a single run through 7.1 innings of work, just one hit and two walks with six strikeouts.
Tampa Bay are 92-0 this season when going into the eighth inning with a lead.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers, who finished with the league's best record (103-59), became the first team in history to be swept by one opponent (Dodgers) in a Postseason and then sweep the same team in the Postseason the very next year. Milwaukee head into the Fall Classic leading all teams in batting average (.250), home runs (10), and saves (6) as they look for their own first title.
Because of their sweep, Milwaukee will enter the World Series on eight days of rest.
Both the Rays and Brewers have recorded 32 RBI this Postseason, with the Rays edging them out in stolen bases (11-10) and hits (67-65).
Their pitching staff has a combined 2.03 ERA (2nd) and sits just behind the Rays in strikeouts (75-65).
National League Cy Young favorite and pitching sensation Jacob Misiorowski was named the Game 1 starter. In this Postseason, Misiorowski has given up three runs on nine hits through 8.1 innings with four walks and 11 strikeouts. Milwaukee are 2-0 in his two starts, winning 3-2 (Padres) and 2-1 (Dodgers), respectively.
However, relief pitchers Aaron Ashby, DL Hall, and Trevor Megill have been the stars of the Brewers pitching staff this Postseason. The three have thrown a combined 23.1 shutout innings, giving up just seven hits and seven walks with 20 strikeouts.
Their bullpen entirely? A 1.33 ERA in 40.2 innings.
As for their bats, star catcher William Contreras leads the team in hits (11), home runs (3), and batting average (.367).
His clutch Game 2 performance against the Dodgers, where he launched a solo home run to tie it 4-4 in one inning, then drove in a go-ahead run the next, ultimately led the team to a 7-4 win before the eventual sweep.
He has five hits in the past three games alone and at least one hit in six of the Brewers' eight Postseason games this year.
Young superstar outfielder Jackson Chourio, despite batting a gruesome .171, still leads the team with seven RBI as the clutch factor has stayed with him throughout the Postseason.
Something unique about this Brewers team that could clash well with the Rays is that six of their seven wins this Postseason have all been come-from-behind victories.
Wrap-up, fun facts
Both the Rays and the Brewers head into the World Series with exactly 103 total bases each. The two teams also faced each other in each of their second series of the 2026 season.
Milwaukee took the three-game series 2-1 (March 29th - April 1st), outscoring the Rays 16-7. Then, both teams went on to post the best two records in the league. Both teams won their respective division and league pennants.
Now, both teams are in the World Series. It is just the eighth instance in league history where both teams in the World Series are seeking their first ring. No matter who it is, it'll be the fourth time we see a team win their first ring over the past 10 seasons.
The Brewers have only one player on their current roster who has been to the World Series: Dustin May, the former Dodgers and Rays pitcher. For the Rays, only Diaz (2020 - Rays) and Steven Matz (2015 - New York Mets) have been to the World Series. That's the third-fewest combined in MLB history.
It is also just the sixth time in the Wild Card era (1995-present), and the third time this current decade, that the top two teams from each respective league made it to the World Series (1995, 1999, 2013, 2020, 2024).
There have been four times where the World Series was played during Halloween (2001, 2009, 2010, 2015), but never finished on the exact date. So if this goes to a Game 7, it'll officially be the first World Series to end on Halloween night!
