Ghana’s Black Maidens kept their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup alive after battling to a 3-3 draw against Brazil in their second Group C match on Wednesday.

The result gives Ghana their first point of the tournament following a 3-0 defeat to Norway in their opening fixture, leaving them needing a positive result against Canada in their final group game.

Brazil took the lead in the seventh minute through Nicolly Manuel, but Ghana responded strongly as Rafia levelled the score in the 31st minute.

Gloria Ameaa then put the Black Maidens ahead four minutes later, giving coach Joe Nana Adarkwa’s side a 2-1 advantage.

However, Brazil restored parity just before half-time, with Kaillany Ranifah scoring in the 44th minute to ensure the teams went into the break level.

Brazil regained the lead in the 57th minute through Indy, leaving Ghana facing another uphill task as they searched for an equaliser.

The Black Maidens thought they had drawn level in the 76th minute through Cynthia, but the goal was ruled out.

Ghana continued to push forward and were eventually rewarded in the 85th minute when Priscilla Mensah scored to secure a valuable point for the West African side.

The draw keeps Ghana in contention for a place in the knockout stage, although their fate will depend on the final round of Group C matches.

The Black Maidens will face Canada on Saturday, October 24th, knowing that a victory would significantly strengthen their chances of progressing to the next round.

After missing the previous edition of the tournament, Ghana will be determined to extend their stay in Morocco and keep their hopes of a successful World Cup campaign alive.
