According to a statement from the club, the former AFC Leopards defender has already undergone successful surgery and will now commence his rehabilitation with the club's medical staff.
The defender was in pain after a challenge by Spurs forward Mathys Tel. He collapsed moments later despite a valiant effort to try and play on.
The match ended 5-1 in favour of the Premier League side with goals from Mikey Moore, Dominic Solanke, Kevin Danso, Savio and Ben Davies. Charlton’s solo goal was scored by Lloyd Jones.
‘It’s tough injury for Collins’
Speaking of the injury, Charlton manager Nathan Jones said: “It’s a tough injury for Collins and everyone at the club. He underwent surgery this week, which went well, but he’ll be out for an extended period.
“Our thoughts are with him, and we’ll be supporting him every step of the way during his recovery. He’s a resilient character and we know he’ll come back stronger.”
In a recent interview after returning from another injury, Sichenje said it was amazing to return to the pitch and was looking forward to helping his side win matches.
“For me, it felt amazing to be back on the pitch and I tried to do what I love most. It was a bit frustrating for the team that we didn’t get the three points, but we just have to keep focused on the remaining games and do our best for the team to stay in the league,” said Sichenje.
“Physically, I feel okay. I always try to work hard even when I'm injured, I always try to do the right things and follow the right steps, and it feels nice to be back.
“My confidence is good; we just need to try and keep going as much as possible to help the team.”
Sichenje was key during CHAN
The latest development comes as a huge blow for Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy, who is preparing the national team for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in East Africa.
Sichenje, who played a key role in helping Kenya to reach the quarter-finals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), was already missing from McCarthy’s provisional squad for the upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
During the CHAN, Kenya played against Madagascar at Kasarani Stadium in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw after regular and extra time. However, Kenya lost 4-3 in the subsequent penalty shootout, stopping their run before the semi-finals.
Harambee Stars will kick off their AFCON qualifying campaign at home against Eritrea on September 26th at Nyayo Stadium, before making the long trip to West Africa to face Guinea on October 1st at Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry.
Kenya are drawn into a competitive Group D alongside South Africa, Guinea, and Eritrea for the PAMOJA 2027 qualifiers.
Born in Butere, Kenya, Sichenje started his career with Green Commandos before moving to Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards in September 2019.
Following a brief spell in Greece with PAOK B, the centre-back returned to AFC Leopards before joining Swedish top-flight side AIK in 2022.
After spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Finnish outfit KuPS Kuopio, he joined FK Vojvodina on an initial six-month loan, with the move made permanent in September 2024 following an impressive start to life in Serbia.
Sichenje has represented Kenya eight times to date, having made his debut in a 1-0 win over South Sudan in March 2021.
