From a high-stakes North London derby in the Premier League to a blockbuster men's ice hockey final between x and x at the Winter Olympics, we're all set for another huge weekend of sporting action.

Here are the main events our news editors will be watching over the next couple of days:

Saturday, February 21st

Carlos Alcaraz vs Arthur Fils, Doha final - 19:00 CET

The final of the ATP 500 tournament in Doha isn't the one everybody expected with Jannik Sinner suffering a shock quarter-final defeat, but that doesn't mean that Carlos Alcaraz will have it easy.

Taking on the Spaniard is 21-year-old Arthur Fils, who was widely considered to be right up there with Alcaraz as one of the biggest young talents in the sport before being plagued by injuries in the second half of 2025.

Before those injury issues, he very much lived up to the hype, winning two ATP 500 titles, beating numerous top-10 players and climbing into the world's top 15 himself. Now, he looks to be getting back to his best again, with his semi-final victory over Jakub Mensik - another huge talent and Sinner's vanquisher - his most impressive display in a long time.

That being said, he'll have to take another huge step up in the final, with Alcaraz in arguably the form of his life right now. The Spaniard has made a perfect start to 2026, winning all 11 of his matches on the tour, and he's now lost just one of his last 16.

He's also won both of his two meetings with Fils, although the first - in Monte Carlo last year - went to a decider and lasted two and a half hours.

Everybody is looking for the man who can rise to the top and challenge Alcaraz and Sinner in the years to come, and the final in Doha will tell us whether Fils could be that man.

Canada vs. USA (men's ice hockey gold-medal match) - 14:10 CET

It comes down to this. The two countries that were destined to meet in the Olympics gold medal match are finally here after not facing each other all tournament. The anticipation for this matchup has become unprecedented for citizens of both countries.

After Canada defeated the USA 3-2 in overtime last year during the 4 Nations Face-Off gold medal matchup, which saw multiple fights within the first minute of the game, this game is personal to both sides.

Both teams have yet to lose in these Olympics. Canada just barely scraped by Finland 3-2 with a goal from Nathan MacKinnon in the final 30 seconds. Canada has outscored their opponents a whopping 27-8. Both of their last two games against Finland and Czechia (in OT) were both comeback victories.

Canada captain Sidney Crosby, who was out for the semi-finals win over Finland, will be doing all he can to recover from the injury that he sustained against Czechia to be ready for what will likely be his last ever Olympic game.

Meanwhile, Team USA is right behind Canada in goal differential, having outscored their opponents 24-8 in the Olympics.  The USA are coming off an emphatic 6-2 win over Slovakia. It is now the fourth time in these Olympics that the Americans have scored at least five goals.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has only allowed more than two goals in a game once - in the preliminary round against Denmark. Since then, he's allowed just four goals in three games.

India vs South Africa - 14:30 CET

The initial group stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup has now wrapped up, and what that means is the tournament is down to the final eight sides. In other words, it’s the business end of things! In the Super 8s, which start on Saturday, the teams are split into two groups of four, and play another round-robin of three matches, with the top two in each half then progressing to the semi-finals.

As it turns out, due to the somewhat controversial pre-seeding of the Super 8 pools, the four group-stage winners have all ended up in Group 1 of the phase. That’s hosts India, their opponents on Sunday, South Africa, the West Indies and Zimbabwe. England, New Zealand, Pakistan and co-hosts Sri Lanka are in the other group.

What’s more, India and South Africa are widely considered to be the two best sides in the tournament, making this weekend’s clash a potential dress rehearsal for the final. Adding to that sense, these sides cannot meet again until the final, which would also be staged at the same venue should they both make it!

India were and remain the red-hot favourites to win the whole thing, especially as they are in home conditions. However, the in-form Proteas will fancy their chances of going one better than the last T20 World Cup (2024), when they lost to India in the final.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash in Ahmedabad, Aiden Markram’s troops will take comfort from the fact that they’ve played at the venue three times already in this tournament, winning comfortably twice and edging Afghanistan in a second Super Over in the other. India have also played there, but only once so far (beating the Netherlands). Could it be that South Africa will thus feel more settled in the conditions?

What's for sure is that it’s going to be an intriguing contest, and while losing this match isn’t critical for either side, whoever falls short will then be under incredible pressure to win their remaining two matches in the stage.

Crvena zvezda vs Partizan Belgrade - 17:00 CET

In what is one of the most heated derbies in world football, Serbia’s two giants - Crvena zvezda and Partizan Belgrade - face off on Sunday evening. This might be the most important meeting in a few years, seeing how the season is shaping up.

This is the 20th year of the Serbian Super Liga after the split between Serbia and Montenegro. In the 19 years since, the two Belgrade-based clubs are the only ones to have lifted the league title. Over the last eight years, however, it has seen Red Star enjoy domestic dominance.

Crvena zvezda have won 11 of the 19 titles during this time, also reaching the round of 16 in the Europa League during that stretch. They do have their hands full, seeing they are fighting on three fronts. Dejan Stankovic’s men will play this match between their UEL games versus Lille.

While they sit a point behind their bitter rivals, Partizan have led the league for much of the campaign. They have finished second in six of the eight years, and have not won a major trophy since 2018/19. Even in continental play, Crno-beli have not reached a group phase since 2022/23.

Trips to the Rajko Mitic have not gone well for Partizan in recent times. Their last win there was in 2019 in the Serbian Cup final. In the league, they have not won since 2017. In fact, Red Star are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run in this fixture, winning five. Nemanja Radomnic’s goal in the 60th minute of the other match gave the record champions a narrow 2-1 win.

Be prepared for fireworks - both on the field and off it - between two sides who have no love lost. The 273rd Eternal Derby could go a long way in determining the league champion come season’s end.

Tottenham vs Arsenal - 17:30 CET

Is there a game this weekend dripping with more narrative than Sunday’s North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal?

The league leaders, Arsenal, dropped points inexplicably to bottom side Wolves in midweek after surrendering a two-goal lead, seeing them lose momentum at the wrong time of the season.

In any ordinary game, they would be favourites against the Premier League’s 16th-best side, but this is no ordinary game. There is genuine hatred between Spurs and the Gunners, and there will be a fiery atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Under new management, it will be Igor Tudor’s first game in charge after Thomas Frank’s disastrous tenure ended earlier this month, and he will want his players to show some bite in the clash.

Both sides feel fragile heading into this encounter, and with both of their seasons teetering on collapse (in different ways), this is going to be a derby with plenty of spice.
