IFK Kristianstad will open their 2026/27 EHF Champions League season with an away tie against Hungarian powerhouse Pick Szeged.

The Group D match will take place in Szeged on Thursday 10th September at 18:45 CEST, ending Sweden's six-year drought from the top European club competition.

Winning the Swedish title last season guaranteed Kristianstad a place in the newly-expanded competition, which is up from 16 teams to 24. The new format sees teams split into six groups of four in the preliminary round.

Champions League handball returns to Swedish shores in round two, when Kristianstad host Portugal's Sporting CP on Wednesday 16th September at 18:45 CEST. That's the first of back-to-back home matches for the Skane County side, who then welcome GOG who will be making the short trip from Gudme, Denmark on Wednesday 7th October.

The top two in the group after six rounds of matches will advance to the main round, while those finishing third and fourth will drop into the EHF European League.
