Harrison Smith returns to Vikings for 15th season on one-year, $12.25 million deal

Smith, 27, has spent his entire 14-year career with the Vikings and is looking to run it back for at least one more year. 

The six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro finished the 2025 season with a career-low 54 tackles in 12 starts - the fewest of his career - in 15 games. 

But Smith still put up 10 pass deflections for the second straight season and the fifth time in the last seven years. 

The long-time safety is currently the active leader in both interceptions (39) and interception yards (510) in 207 games (203 starts). After being drafted 29th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft, Smith put up 104 tackles, 10 pass deflections, and three interceptions in a full season (16 games) before suffering a major turf toe injury in his second season, playing in only eight games. 

Since then, Smith has yet to miss more than three games in a season. 

He finished fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting after a 2017 season in which he posted 78 tackles, 12 pass deflections, and five interceptions, also earning First-Team All-Pro honors. 

The following year, Smith earned Second-Team All-Pro honors after putting up 84 tackles with three sacks (tying a career high), six pass deflections, and three interceptions.

A few years later, Smith put up a career-high 114 tackles - just the second time in his career eclipsing 100 in a season. His 1,180 tackles are the most ever by a Vikings defensive back.

In his 14 years with the Vikings, Smith also became just the sixth player in NFL history with at least 35 interceptions (39) and at least 20 sacks (21.5) - every other player in the group is in the Hall of Fame. Those players are: Charles Woodson, Ronde Barber, Brian Dawkins, LeRoy Butler, and Larry Wilson.
