After just two wins in their first seven, SaiPa are now over their Playoff hangover, as they recorded a sixth win in a row, four of which have been secured in 60 minutes.
The latest team to stand in their way were Karpat, who made life tough for the Lappeenranta side - after Henri Nikkanen put the hosts in front, goals from Arttu Alasiurua, Eemil Erholtz and Benjamin Tardif had given the visitors a 3-1 lead by the first minute of the second period.
But SaiPa were not about to lose face, as Janne Naukkarinen responded quickly to get them back into the match before Juuso Heikkila ensured the sides began the final 20 minutes level.
It took Ondrej Trebal just one minute, 45 seconds of the third to put SaiPa 4-3 in front, and they held on for another three points which takes them to within one of the leaders. Back-to-back defeats for Karpat leaves them just about hanging on to a top 12 place.
Between SaiPa and first place are JYP, who needed a late turnaround to break TPS Turku hearts and win 5-4 at home.
They were, however, in cruise control - following a goalless first period, scores from Leevi Tukiainen, Otto Makinen and Aaro Vidgren in the second put them 3-0 up, before Lukas Wernblom pulled one back for TPS in the dying embers of the period.
In fact, that goal turned the game, as the Turku side closed the gap to within one early in the third, courtesy of Tarmo Reunanen. Then, a second from Wernblom and an Eetu Pakkila strike stunned the home crowd and put TPS ahead with just under eight minutes to play.
A minute later, another TPS player turned the game once more, this time in JYP's favour. Jeremi Virtanen was dismissed for kneeing, and in the five minutes they had the advantage, the Jyvaskyla side grabbed the win thanks to strikes from Valtteri Ojantakanen and Juuso Puustinen.
Assat remain top of the pile but only on goal difference after they were beaten 2-1 by Tappara. Kasper Simontaival broke the deadlock for the Tampere side early on, but Patrick Juhola squared things up midway through the match.
However, with just over three minutes to play, Oiva Keskinen made sure of all three points for Tappara, to simultaneously end a run of three losses for his side and a run of three wins for the Aces.
Moving into the top four are KooKoo, who dominated the final 20 minutes against Jukurit, scoring four times to help them to a 5-1 success at home - their third win in 60 minutes in a row - as the visitors slip to eighth.
The bottom two met in the capital, not that you would know IFK Helsinki had been struggling, as they breezed past Ilves, 6-1, as Daniel Makiaho scored twice and Tony Sund made it 6-0 before the end of the second period, before the Tampere side grabbed a consolation.
What makes the result more shocking is Ilves won the reverse fixture 3-0 just yesterday, one of four defeats in a row for IFK before today. Both teams are on 12 points, but despite today's score, the Helsinki still have a worse goal difference.
Hameenlinna have moved up a place to 11th and left Vaasan Sport just outside the top 12 after a 5-4 win in overtime away from home.
Sport's Philip Granath had sent the match to the extra period, only for Jesse Kiiskinen to score the game-winner with 03:42 on the overtime clock and complete his hat-trick in great style.
After going behind in the opening minute, two Teemu Hartikainen goals later in the first period were enough for KalPa to secure a fourth league win in five, winning 2-1 at Kiekko-Espoo, whose form now reads four defeats in five.
Finally, Patrik Bartosek made 25 saves as he kept a shutout for Pelicans in their 2-0 victory over Lukko which ends back-to-back losses for the Lahti side and keeps them clear of the bottom two.
