Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Dennis Hildeby earned his first career shutout during the NHL's five-game slate on December 8th.

Maple Leafs 2-0 Lightning

All it took was a Morgan Rielly (5) goal in the first and Auston Matthews (12) to score on an empty net in the third to hand the Lightning their fourth straight loss.

Hildeby earned his first shutout in his 15th career game (11th start) with 29 saves. The 24-year-old made his debut for the Leafs last year, going 3-3 in six games, giving up at least two goals in each.

He's allowed just three goals in his past three starts as the Maple Leafs improved to 14-11-4. Tampa Bay fell to 16-11-2.

Mammoth 2-4 Kings

Adrian Kempe (10) and Joel Armia got things started for the Kings in the first period with a pair of goals that were both assisted by Kevin Fiala (11).

Dylan Guenther (11) got the Mammoth on the board in the second with a power-play goal to cut the lead in half.

But starting the third, Anze Kopitar (6) put the Kings back ahead by two. Later in the period, Utah's Clayton Keller (10) would give his team one last effort for a rally, but Armia (7) scored his second of the game with an empty netter as the Kings improved to 14-8-7.

Flames 7-4 Sabres

Yegor Sharangovich (6) scored twice in a wild, high-scoring game that saw the Flames put up a season-high seven goals.

After Sharangovich and Rasmus Andersson (7) put the Flames up 2-0 in the first, both teams would exchange one goal four times throughout the second period to the start of the third before Sharangovich would put home the empty netter to end the game.

Calgary has now won three straight as they improved to 12-15-4. Buffalo, on the other hand, has now lost three straight as they fell to 11-14-4.

Canucks 0-4 Red Wings

James van Riemsdyk (7) got things started for the Red Wings, and he has now scored in four straight games and five of the last six.

Andrew Copp (3) and Nate Danielson (2) scored within 37 seconds of each other in the second period to put the Red Wings up 3-0 heading into the third.

Dylan Larkin (16) added a fourth in the final period as the Red Wings improved to 16-11-3. The Canucks, meanwhile, are struggling with the second-worst record in the West.

Kraken 1-4 Wild

Jordan Eberle (9) tied things up for the Kraken after Joel Eriksson Ek (5) put Minnesota on top first to start the game.

But Marcus Johansson's (9) third-period goal put the Wild up 2-1 with under 10 minutes in the game, and then Kirill Kaprizov (17) and Vladimir Tarasenko (3) took the game away.

The Wild improved to 16-9-5, while the Kraken are left on 11-10-6.
