Sundowns never looked troubled, especially after going ahead, and the clean sheet will be pleasing for coach Miguel Cardoso in a season where they have been hard to come by.
Chances at both ends
Milford gave as good as they got in the first half and might have been ahead but for the face of Ronwen Williams.
Thabani Mabena got in behind the Sundowns defence and hit a shot that struck an on-rushing Williams flush in the face. It was a painful one for the keeper, but you save them however you can!
At the other end, Tashreeq Matthews, playing his 72nd consecutive game for the Brazilians, beat the keeper with a shot on target, but as the ball trickled towards the empty net, Olwethu Cele got back to clear off the line.
Rayners on target
Sundowns took the lead on the stroke of half-time as Iqraam Rayners netted at the second attempt with a tap-in.
Aubrey Modiba robbed Vusumuzi Mthabela of the ball on the left-hand byline and raced into the box.
His low ball across the six-yard box found Rayners, whose initial scuffed effort was saved by Milford keeper Siphamandla Hleza, who could do nothing as the Bafana Bafana striker crashed in the rebound.
It was the 30-year-old’s first goal since he scored against Polokwane City in May and, with Bafana Bafana facing a potential striker crisis for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month, a welcome one.
Van Wyk scores again
Another former Stellenbosch FC player added a second for Sundowns after some lovely football.
Modiba slipped a pass to Antonio Van Wyk in the box and he coolly slotted past the keeper with a composed finish.
It is a second goal in as many games and a third in five appearances since Van Wyk returned from Austria to sign for Sundowns.
The 24-year-old looks a great buy so far and, with his two other goals coming in the MTN8, this was his first league strike for the Brazilians.
Physical Milford
Once Milford went a goal down, they seemed to decide that the only way to get back into the contest was to get physical.
Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena, only just back from a serious gash, had his Achilles raked, while Marcelo Allende took a blow to the face from a cynical stray arm from Cebo Mthethwa.
As is often the case, the match officials let many dubious challenges go and that only emboldened the visitors.
Players get away with no punishment in the PSL for challenges that would be a straight red in other leagues.
What’s next?
Sundowns are not in action this weekend even though they have received a bye in the CAF Champions League First Preliminary Round, which is being played from Friday to Sunday.
They are next in action with another trip to Lamontville Golden Arrows in the league next Wednesday. They have just edged Abafana Bes’thende on the away-goals rule in the MTN8 semi-finals.
Milford must go to Chippa United on Saturday for what will be a third league game in a row on the road.
