Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie said his team were 'powerless' against Braga, who beat the Rotterdam outfit 1-0 in their UEFA Europa League opener on Wednesday.
Fran Navarro's 79th-minute winner came from a rare moment of quality in a match lacking pace, attacking intentions, and chances.
"Especially if you look at the first half, it was boring," Robin van Persie told Ziggo Sport after the game.
"Not much happened. We didn't give away much defensively, but the tempo overall was very slow. In that case, I'm mostly looking at us. We were powerless going forward - I was looking at a match of which I was wondering when it was starting."
Feyenoord ended the first half with just four total shots, one of which was on target. "During half-time, I indicated that there were definitely opportunities. Then you have to move more yourself. Now it was too static."
Disappointed with the goal
Van Persie was disappointed at the way Feyenoord conceded Braga's 1-0, which came from a low cross and was made possible by Tsuyoshi Watanabe letting Navarro escape from behind him.
"After an hour, things improved somewhat, but overall it was a disappointing evening. It was also disappointing how we conceded the 1-0," said Van Persie.
"I'm really annoyed about that. Our defence was substandard at that moment. I find that very frustrating."
Centre-half Anel Ahmedhodzic shared Van Persie's disappointment. "We also gave away the goal far too cheaply, really far too cheaply."
'Haven't had a serious chance'
Van Persie fielded a drastically changed side against Braga, giving seven different players starts after last weekend's 3-3 draw away at AZ. Among the seven were Casper Tengstedt, Goncalo Borges, and Malcolm Jeng, who all got their first starts.
"We always look at past matches and the upcoming period," Van Persie explained at the post-game press conference.
"Outsiders don't know if the players are reaching their limits. Ayase (Ueda) was actually happy to get some rest. We have a hectic schedule. With such a big squad, I think it makes sense to give other players a chance."
One line the former Arsenal and Manchester United star was unhappy with was his attack, which consisted of Gouassou Diarra, Casper Tengstedt, and Goncalo Borges - three newcomers.

Diarra took three shots, which all missed the target, and completed just three of his eight attempted dribbles. Striker Tengstedt didn't take a single attempt at goal and recorded just 14 touches in 62 minutes, while Borges took one hopeless shot, completed three of six dribbles, and won just six of his 14 duels. None of the forwards created a single chance.
"I had hoped that our attackers would have more impact," he said. "That wasn't easy for me, because we didn't have a single serious chance the entire match."
"With all due respect, I think the opportunities were there. I'm not talking about a B team, because we have a squad of 32 players to choose from. Today, several players had their first chance at the same time. I had hoped and expected more."
