KRC Genk is determined to challenge at the top of the table once again under Jess Thorup. "Jess is a coach with experience and a clear football philosophy," said Head of Football Dimitri de Condé.
"He knows our club, he knows Belgian football, and he knows what it takes to win trophies. We've invested heavily in the structure around our first team this summer. Jess is the right coach to build on that foundation and translate it into results."
Thorup had been approached by a number of clubs in the English Championship but opted for a return to Genk.
"KRC Genk is a top club. You can see it in every aspect: the quality of the squad, the facilities, the support staff, the ambitions for the future. I'm really looking forward to writing the next chapter of this story together with everyone at the club," he said.
With Thorup, KRC Genk have appointed a highly experienced coach with an impressive track record. In recent years, he has managed FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga, while previously winning Danish league titles with both FC Midtjylland and FC Copenhagen. Last season, he also lifted the Egyptian Super Cup with Al Ahly FC.
