Austrian boss Ralf Rangnick and forward Michael Gregoritsch were full of respect for the Black Stars ahead of Friday's Vienna friendly.

Ralf Rangnick has paid a glowing tribute to Ghana ahead of Friday's international friendly at the Ernst Happel-Stadion, insisting the Black Stars represent a demanding test for his Austria side as they prepare towards their first FIFA World Cup appearance in 28 years.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, the Austria head coach was measured, respectful, and clear-eyed about the challenge that awaits his team when Otto Addo's side come calling in Vienna.

"Ghana is a strong team in terms of play, but they also have a certain physicality, athleticism, and dynamism," Rangnick told reporters.

"This is a great test for us because we need to bring our strengths to the field, both physically, tactically, and technically in order to win the game."

Rangnick was equally emphatic about Austria's own ambitions for the fixture, making it clear that the friendly tag attached to the game changes nothing about how his side will approach it.

"We approach every match with the goal of winning. That's why we play these games," he said. "We want to keep building our confidence. Ghana also beat South Korea."

Austria forward Michael Gregoritsch was equally forthcoming ahead of the tie, expressing genuine enthusiasm at the prospect of facing a team from outside the familiar European mould.

"Ghana is a physically strong, technically well-trained team that can transition quickly," the Freiburg striker said. "It's a perfect test to see how we fare against non-European opponents. We're looking forward to playing against an African team."

Friday's match kicks off at 18:00 CET at the Ernst Happel-Stadion, with Austria fielding a squad that includes captain David Alaba, midfield engine Konrad Laimer, and veteran forward Marko Arnautović.

Two newly eligible players, Carney Chukwuemeka and Paul Wanner, could also feature, adding an extra dimension of intrigue to the occasion.

Austria have been drawn in Group J at the World Cup alongside reigning champions Argentina, Algeria and Jordan, and every competitive performance in the build-up carries extra weight.
