The result keeps an impressive statistic alive: Swiatek is the only tennis player - male or female - to have reached at least the third round in every Grand Slam played this decade.
This streak began at the 2020 Australian Open and now stands at 27 consecutive Grand Slams with the Polish star reaching at least the third round. (Wimbledon was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic, so that year's London tournament is not included in the count).
At 25, Swiatek has already won six Grand Slam titles. Chasing her second trophy in New York, the current world number eight will face the winner of the match between Marie Bouzkova and Harriet Dart in the third round.
Thursday's win was Iga's 12th in 13 matches played during this hard-court swing in the second half of the season.
