The third round marked the end of the road for Clara Tauson at the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati when the 23-year old Dane lost 6-7, 2-6 to defending Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova late Monday night.

Tauson gave the 21-year-old Czech a tough fight in the first set, which lasted over an hour and had to be decided by a tie-break. However, Tauson ran out of steam in the second set, which Noskova won after about half an hour of play.

It was their third meeting on the WTA Tour; Tauson had won the previous two matches in 2025. Noskova has enjoyed a fantastic summer, capped by winning her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.

That triumph propelled her into the world top 10; she is currently ranked number eight in the world. In contrast, Tauson has slid down the rankings in recent months during a season plagued by injuries and inconsistent form.

In the spring, she revealed she was struggling with two herniated discs—an issue that has caused her to withdraw from several events and play matches while in pain.

The 23-year-old Dane has dropped to number 42 in the world, making it unlikely she will secure a top-32 seed for the US Open, which begins in late August.

She is entered in next week's WTA 500 event in Monterrey as a final warm-up before the US Open.
