The last Danish badminton player crashed out of this year's All England on Friday evening.
Line Christophersen lost 21-13, 17-21, 10-21 to Akane Yamaguchi and thus missed a place in the semifinals in women's singles.
For one and a half sets, Line Christophersen played excellent badminton, but in the final phase, there was a class difference in Japan's favour.
"It went way too fast at the end. I had difficulty figuring out what to do", said Line Christophersen to TV 2 Sport.
Yamaguchi is ranked 4th in the world and the defending world champion, while Line Christophersen is ranked 23rd in the world. That difference could not be seen at the start of the match.
While the third set was one-sided with Yamaguchi in the driver's seat, the Dane played above her usual level in the first two sets, and the world champion was on the ropes at one point midway through the match.
In the first set, Line Christophersen took the lead and won the opening set, but the turning point came in the second set, when the Japanese began to gain momentum with clever tactical counter moves.
"I played some okay duels in the second set. It was great that I could participate in large parts of the match."
"I can take a lot with me. I was very calm in there and built up the points well. We have had a lot of focus on keeping calm for a while, and it works for me", said Line Christophersen.
