The Brewers will be receiving starting pitcher Nestor Cortes (30) and infielder Caleb Durbin (24) along with cash considerations.
The new ninth-inning man for the Yankees comes after former closer Clay Holmes recently signed a three-year deal with the Mets.
Williams posted a whopping 1.25 ERA this past season in 22 appearances with 14 saves. The 2x All-Star was facing a setback this year after dealing with stress fractures in his back and didn't see his first appearances for the 2024 season until the end of July.
Cortes had a solid season as a starter for the Yankees. He posted a 3.77 ERA in 30 starts with 174.1 innings pitched, giving up 162 hits and just 39 walks. His 162 strikeouts on the year came within just two more needed to break a career-high.
But his 2.0 walks per nine innings average is the lowest of his career, giving the Brewers a nice arm in the rotation.
Durbin was one of the Yankees' most impressive prospects. The speedster set a record during the Arizona Fall League where he stole a whopping 29 bases in just 24 games.
The five-foot-six Missouri native slashed an impressive .275/.388/.451 in the minors last season, totaling 10 home runs, 60 RBI, and 31 stolen bases (Fall League stats don't count towards this), with 53 walks to just 40 strikeouts.
