The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Florida Panthers 4-3 in Game 2 on Wednesday night to take a commanding 2-0 series lead.

In a game that saw backup goaltender Joseph Woll get the start over Anthony Stolarz due to injury from Game 1, the Maple Leafs still managed to prevail in an intense Game 2 matchup against the Panthers

So let's go period-by-period with all the major highlights from Game 2!

1st Period

Woll started tonight for the injured Stolarz.

Almost 11 minutes into the period, Aleksander Barkov scored his second goal of the playoffs and the first of this game on a power-play goal.

Leafs tie it up on their third PP opportunity of the period with Max Pacioretty's 27th career playoff goal.

This marked his second goal of the playoffs and fifth point in six games after not being put into the lineup until Game 3 against the Ottawa Senators.

Both teams were almost evenly matched on the stat sheet. Florida had six shots on goal to Toronto's five, while the latter outhit the former 17-13.

However, the Leafs won a resounding 72.2% of the face-offs in the first period.

2nd Period

Marchand scores 15 seconds into the second period to go up 2-1 off a beautiful backhanded goal. This is now his first playoff goal with the Panthers and the 57th of his career.

Pacioretty recorded his sixth point in six games after assisting on a breakaway goal to teammate William Nylander just under five minutes into the period, tying it all up 2-2.

The goal is Nylander's sixth, which elevates him to sixth most in the playoffs so far.

A little over a minute following Nylander's goal, Evan Rodrigues for the Florida Panthers left the ice to head to the locker room after a rough hit on the boards by Scott Laughton

Laughton was given a double-minor for roughing while Florida's Nate Schmidt received a minor rough penalty following the hit in an attempt to defend his teammate.

However, the Leafs ended the period with a 3-2 lead after a goal from Max Domi.

3rd Period

The third period was off to a heated start after Anton Lundell scored his third goal of the playoffs to tie it all up 3-3.

But just 18 seconds later, Mitch Marner responded with a goal of his own for the Leafs to take a 4-3 lead.

After they pulled goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky from the net with three minutes to go in the third period for the extra man, Florida failed to put another goal on the scoreboard, leading to an ultimate 4-3 defeat as the Toronto Maple Leafs go up 2-0 in the series.

Teams that have gone up 2-0 in a seven-game series have an 86 percent chance of winning the series, historically posting a now 358-57 record following Toronto's record.

Florida finished the game with 28 shots to Toronto's 20, but the latter had a whopping 25 blocks to the former's eight.

The Maple Leafs finished with 41 hits while the Panthers had 39.

Game 3 between the Panthers and Maple Leafs will take place in Florida on Friday, May 9th.
