The Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Nazem Kadri and a 2027 fourth-round pick from the Calgary Flames in a trade deal on Friday.

In exchange, the Flames received forward Victor Olofsson, forward Maxmilian Currian, a conditional 2027 second-round pick, and a conditional 2028 first-round pick.

Kadri, 35, is heading back to the Avs, where he spent three seasons (2019-2021) and won a Stanley Cup. The veteran center has scored 12 goals and put up 29 assists through 61 games this season and is under contract for the next three years ($7 million AAV).

In his final season with the Avs, Kadri put up 28 goals and 59 assists in 71 games. Now, if he doesn't score eight more goals this season, it'll be the first time in five years that Kadri finishes a season with less than 20 goals.

Olofsson, 30, had 11 goals and 14 assists through 60 games this season. He needs just five more goals and one assist to surpass his season totals from last year. The vet is an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Currian, 20, has 14 goals and 27 assists through 31 games in the WHL this season for the Edmonton Oil Kings. He put up 22 goals and 52 assists with the Tri-City Americans (WHL) in 65 games.

Kadri is now another 30+ year old player that was sent off at the trade deadline that included a first-round pick as part of the return. Others include Justin Faulk to the Detroit Red Wings, John Carlson to the Anaheim Ducks, and Brayden Schenn to the New York Islanders.

The Avalanche sit atop the NHL with the best record in the league at 41-10-9 (91 points). They are the only team with at least 40 wins and 90+ points.

Calgary, on the other hand, are second-to-last in the league with a 24-30-7 record (55 points).
