Sabres acquire Logan Stanley, Luke Schenn in big trade with Jets

The Buffalo Sabres acquired defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn from the Winnipeg Jets in a trade deal on Friday.

In exchange, the Jets received defenseman Jacob Bryson, forward Isak Rosen, a condition 2026 fourth-round pick, and a 2027 second-round pick. 

Stanley, 27, is currently having a career-year with nine goals and 12 assists (21 points). He's in the final year of his current contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Schenn, 36, has one goal and seven assists this season. The long-time veteran is currently in his 18th season and is also in the final year of his contract.

They'll be joining a red-hot Sabres team who are currently third in the Eastern Conference, riding a five-game win streak - the second-best in the NHL.

Bryson, 28, has only put up two goals and three assists in 35 games for the Sabres this season. He's missed some time this season with an upper-body injury and landed on concussion protocol for a brief period. He'll also be a free agent at the end of the season. 

Rosen, 22, has spent the majority of the season in the AHL, where he's put up 25 goals and 18 assists through 37 games, making it three-straight seasons with at least 20 goals.

Those two will be joining a Jets team that's currently in a down year following their Presidents' Trophy-winning season last year. Winnipeg currently sits in 12th place in the Western Conference with a 25-26-10 record.

The Sabres also acquired forward Sam Carrick from the New York Rangers in a deal that sent off a 2026 third-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick.
