PSV reached the round of 16 after producing an upset win over Juventus in Eindhoven. The record Italian champions won the first leg 2-1 in Turin but lost 3-1 in Eindhoven after Ryan Flamingo scored the 3-1 in extra time.
In their second consecutive appearance in the Champions League round of 16, PSV will face Premier League side Arsenal for the third straight season.
PSV and Arsenal faced off ten times this century, of which four games came in the last two seasons. During the 2022/23 Europa League season, PSV and Arsenal faced off in the group stage and split the wins evenly, with Arsenal beating PSV 1-0 in London and PSV beating Arsenal 2-0 in Eindhoven. Last season, the two met again, and Arsenal stayed unbeaten after winning 4-0 in Eindhoven and drawing 1-1 in the Philips Stadion.
In 2007, PSV and Arsenal faced off in the second round of the Champions League. The Dutch side knocked Arsenal out by winning the second leg 1-0 after the first meeting in London ended in a 1-1 draw. Ecuadorian midfielder Edison Mendez crushed the Londoners' dreams with a thunderous strike from distance.
Arsenal qualified directly for the round of 16 after finishing third in the league phase. The Gunners boasted the second-best defence in the competition after conceding just three goals in eight matches - a total only topped by Inter's 1.
While the playing dates are yet to be announced, PSV have requested the UEFA to schedule the first leg in Eindhoven on Wednesday, March 5th. By doing this, the Eindhoven side want to lower pressure on the police force with the carnival festival due to attract thousands.
The return will be played one week later in Arsenal's Emirates Stadium on March 11th or 12th.
