Lia Walti made a surprise move to Juventus from Arsenal this summer, having just been crowned European champion with the Gunners. Before facing Bayern Munich on Thursday, the Swiss captain took part in a press conference organised by UEFA and answered Flashscore's questions.

Flashscore: This summer you decided to leave Arsenal to join Juventus, after seven years in England. Why did you make that choice?

Walti: "First of all, I had a fantastic time in England with Arsenal. And I think that all good times with a team come to an end at some point. I felt that maybe it was time for me to move on if I wanted to have more control over my career. And yes, we started talks with Juve a few weeks before the transfer took place. And I had a very good feeling with everyone at the club. It's always my instinct to trust.

"When I spoke to them, I had that feeling and I felt great confidence in what I can bring to the team. For me, it's always been important to look a little further afield than football and to be in a new country, discovering a new league, a new culture, maybe learning a new language, which is beneficial for me. It was a very good choice for me."

The transfer also means you'll be closer to your family...

"Yes, absolutely. That's something I always miss, being able to see my family more often. And I think a few hours' drive is perfectly feasible for them, so that's great."

Did the fact that you were at home in Switzerland for the whole of July during the Euros, where you could see your family more easily than when you were at Arsenal, also motivate you to leave?

"In fact, I didn't see them any more during the Euros. They saw me much more often, because they could come and see me at the stadium, but we didn't have much time to see each other. But I miss my family. I think that's the price I have to pay for going abroad and discovering other leagues and other countries, but at the same time, I've always felt their support and when I told my dad I was moving closer to home, he was so happy because he can now come and watch almost every game, so it's a positive side effect, for sure, and we're going to enjoy our family more."

You won the Champions League with Arsenal. Would you like to use that experience with Juventus to bring the club closer to a final and perhaps win it?

"When the club first contacted me, that's exactly why they wanted to sign me. They told me they needed experience. They want me to help the team be a little more successful at international level, but also to help the young players progress, and I think that's what I can bring to the team.

"We'll have to wait and see. Our main objective is always to win domestic trophies. We can win here and then, of course, we want to go further than we ever have, but in the Champions League it's really difficult. We know that and we have to take it step by step, match by match, but I hope to play my part so that the team can also succeed in this competition."

With Arsenal, you played Bayern Munich last season, a pretty tough team, and this season they've recruited some pretty important players. Are you still cautious about them?

"Yes, of course I'm cautious. I think Bayern have built something really incredible over the last few years and invested a lot in the women's team, which is great to see, because they're a great men's football club, and it's about time they had success with the women's team too.

"I'm always happy to see that as a neutral fan of women's football, but at the same time, yes, we have to have immense respect for their qualities. They have great players individually, but also as a team. They play a little differently than previous years, but we're certainly not going into this game as favourites, and we'll be doing everything we can to pick up points in Munich. But it's going to be a huge challenge, and we'll need to have a perfect day."
