Stade Briochin’s heroic Coupe De France run is finally over at the quarter-final stage, following a 7-0 loss to a treble-chasing Paris Saint-Germain side, who secured their ninth consecutive victory across all competitions in typical ruthless fashion.

Following an initial surprise flurry of pressure from the fourth-tier hosts, PSG quickly asserted their dominance as they took control of the game.

Briochin knew they would need Franck L'Hostis to have the game of his life to stand any chance of advancing, and he started strongly to his credit, using his feet to hack Gonçalo Ramos’ fierce header away to safety.

L'Hostis could only hold the visitors at bay for so long though, and he finally conceded on the quarter-hour mark when João Neves was first to react, tucking the loose ball into the net after Désiré Doué’s shot struck the bar.

The home side struggled to muster a response, and Luis Enrique showed their class by doubling the lead 10 minutes before the interval.

Senny Mayulu found time and space on the wing to clip a delicate cross towards the back post, and with the defence caught on their heels, Ramos darted in to finish from close range.

The half-time break did bring some respite for the home side, but any faint hopes of a comeback vanished quickly, when they were blown away soon after the interval as Doué wreaked havoc and Ramos nabbed his hat trick.

The Portuguese striker nabbed his second from the spot quickly after the interval after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was felled in the box, but then Doué took over the back pages with aplomb. Firstly, he scored a fine goal of his own with a delightful flick and finish at the edge of the area, and then turned provider for both Ramos and Mayulu to make it 6-0.

All that was left in the final stages for Briochin was a potential consolation goal, but Matvey Safonov was on hand to thwart Mathéo Ntumi after a mazy run down the left from the substitute.

There was still time for one more goal when Ousmane Dembélé slammed his 25th goal of the season home at the near post, leaving PSG to look forward to the semi-final draw.

Amongst the potential opponents in April’s semis are USL Dunkerque, who sprang a shock earlier tonight by coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against top-flight Brest.
