On the day that players learn who they'll face in the opening round of the Australian Open, a number of notable names continue their preparation elsewhere in the country and neighbouring New Zealand.

13:57 CET - In the last quarter-final of the day, Yulia Putintseva (30) has beaten Diana Shnaider (20) 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 in an epic in Adelaide. The Kazakh will next face top seed Jessica Pegula (30) in the semis.

10:42 CET - Over in Hobart, the day's play has come to a close, with second seed Elise Mertens (29) coming through a three-set quarter-final against Veronika Kudermetova (27). The Belgian won their topsy-turvy contest 6-1, 0-6, 6-2 in 125 minutes.

10:18 CET - Third seed Daria Kasatkina (27) has lost 6-1, 6-3 to Madison Keys (29) in Adelaide.

09:38 CET - In something of a surprise, young talent Jakub Mensik (19) has been beaten 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 by Nuno Borges (27) in the last quarter-final in Auckland.

08:52 CET - The big news away from the court is that the Australian Open draw has been made and has given Novak Djokovic (37) an extremely difficult path to the final.

Tommy Paul (27) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (24) have both won in Adelaide while Thanasi Kokkinakis (28) was forced to withdraw from his quarter-final against Sebastian Korda (24).

On the women's side, Liudmila Samsonova (26) downed second seed Emma Navarro (23) and Jessica Pegula (30) advanced to the final four after young talent Ashlyn Krueger (20) retired while a set down.

There was also a win for Gael Monfils (38) in Auckland while the top two seeds were knocked out in Hobart with Dayana Yastremska (24) losing to McCartney Kessler (25) and Amanda Anisimova (23) pulling out of her clash with Elina Avanesyan (22).
