Four Danish players took part in Wimbledon, and when the US Open begins on Sunday, three Danes will be in the main tournament.
The fact that Denmark was represented with four players in a grand slam tournament is something that is noticed abroad. Also in Norway, where Casper Ruud features as the absolute best-placed Norwegian in the world rankings (No 12)
"It's quite incredible, I think. I've definitely noticed it, because I follow the other Scandinavian players. I also think it's noticed in Norway."
"It's a bit like when Croatia reached the World Cup final in football (2018)", says Casper Ruud, referring to Croatia's almost four million inhabitants.
Denmark and Norway have roughly the same population, but Denmark are currently superior to Norway in terms of highly-ranked players on the ATP- and WTA Tour.
Casper Ruud's closest compatriots in the world rankings are Nicolai Budkov Kjaer and Viktor Durasovic, who are number 162 and 240 in the rankings respectively. Denmark has Holger Rune at 11 th spot, Elmer Moller at 110th spot and August Holmgren at No. 173 in the rankings.
On the women's side, Clara Tauson is ranked in 15th spot, while the highest ranked Norwegian woman is Malene Helgo at No. 455.
"We had Durasovic in the qualification, and Budkov also had a place, but chose not to play. Hopefully we can get more in the future, so we can better catch up with Denmark."
"We don't have as great traditions in Scandinavia compared to Southern Europe, and then there was Sweden, which for a period had very proud traditions, but is now behind Denmark and Norway", says Casper Ruud.
Casper Ruud will face the Austrian Sebastian Ofner in the first round of the US Open on Tuesday.
